Michelin Guide Vietnam 2024 Highlights 164 Restaurants in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang

Michelin has officially released the 2024 edition of The MICHELIN Guide for Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. The unveiling ceremony took place on June 27th at the InterContinental Saigon Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. The event was attended by Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).

Founded in France in 1900, the MICHELIN Guide is published annually with the mission of making driving, traveling, and discovering unforgettable experiences easier for everyone. During the event, Mr. Ahmad Faiez Mohamed Pisal, Managing Director of MICHELIN Vietnam, emphasized that by promoting top dining venues and accommodations in various destinations, the MICHELIN Guide enhances the traveler experience and strengthens the tourism industry. These efforts align with MICHELIN's philosophy of improving lives and fostering social progress.

Mr. Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of Sun Group, a MICHELIN Guide partner in Vietnam, highlighted that after nearly two years of cooperation, they have witnessed significant achievements in showcasing Vietnamese cuisine globally. Restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City that were first recognized by the MICHELIN Guide in 2023 have experienced remarkable growth, attracting numerous local and international diners.

He noted that collaborating with the MICHELIN Guide brings Sun Group closer to its goal of showcasing the excellence of Vietnamese cuisine worldwide, positioning Vietnam as a world-class culinary destination that tourists aspire to visit.

This marks the second time the MICHELIN Guide has held a ceremony to honor noteworthy culinary establishments in Vietnam. Da Nang is being recognized for the first time at this year's awards, alongside Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

All selected establishments are evaluated by anonymous MICHELIN Guide inspectors based on five criteria: ingredient quality, cooking skill, harmony of flavors, the chef's personality expressed through the cuisine, and consistency over time and across the menu. These criteria are applied globally to ensure fair and consistent selection, adhering to international standards.

The newly released guide highlights 164 establishments in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. Notably, Nén Danang has become Vietnam’s first restaurant to receive the MICHELIN Green Star, which acknowledges establishments leading the industry in sustainable practices and offering dining experiences that blend culinary excellence with eco-friendly commitments.

All previously awarded one MICHELIN Star restaurants—Gia, Hibana by Koki, Tầm Vị, and Ănăn Saigon—retain their stars, while the 2024 selection introduces two newcomers and one promotion: Akuna (Ho Chi Minh City), offering creative European dishes with Vietnamese influences and wine pairings; La Maison 1888 (Da Nang); and The Royal Pavilion (Ho Chi Minh City).

The number of Bib Gourmand eateries has doubled from last year's list, now featuring 58 establishments: 18 in Hanoi, 24 in Ho Chi Minh City, and 16 in Da Nang.

A total of 99 establishments are listed in the MICHELIN Selected category, with 40 newcomers: 33 in Hanoi (including 5 newcomers), 47 in Ho Chi Minh City (16 newcomers), and 19 in Da Nang (all newcomers).

Three MICHELIN Guide Special Awards 2024 were also announced: the Sommelier Award went to Toan Nguyen from La Maison 1888, the only one-MICHELIN-starred restaurant in Da Nang; the Service Award was presented to Anh Nguyen from Si Dining, a MICHELIN-selected restaurant in Da Nang; and the Young Chef Award was given to Chef Duy Nguyen from Little Bear, a new MICHELIN-selected restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City.

The MICHELIN Guide Ceremony celebrates the persistent and creative efforts of restaurants and eateries in Vietnam's most vibrant cities, inspiring the culinary community to strive for excellence and contributing to placing Vietnamese cuisine on the global culinary map.
